Expected Alisson injury recovery timeline comes to light
Liverpool are reeling from another injury suffered by first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The 33-year-old played twice against Wolves last week - in the Premier League on Tuesday before making an appearance in the FA Cup fifth-round win at Molineux.
But ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League round-of-16 first-leg showdown against Galatasaray the Brazilian broke down with another injury.
Having missed a seven-week spell back in the autumn this absence comes as another blow to Arne Slot and his Premier League champions.
Giorgi Mamardashvili filled in for the long-serving Reds’ No1 when he was absent at the back end of 2025 and is once again set to step in.
Alisson injured his hamstring during the game against Gala back in September and although he was only expected to be out for a short time he ended up missing nearly two months.
Mamardashvili will play against Galatasaray
Liverpool really cannot afford for that to happen again - with prizes to be contested and a place in the Champions League next season to fight for.
The Anfield side will take on Tottenham on Sunday in a vital top-flight fixture - knowing that last time out they lost to Wolves. It was a damaging defeat with Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea all circling as Champions League rivals.
Very few slip-ups can be tolerated by Arne Slot between now and the end of the season - and he will require as strong a side as possible.
The Liverpool head coach gave an indication about Alisson’s availability for the upcoming Spurs game in his pre-match press conference in Istanbul.
Alisson expected back for Spurs game
Alisson took part in the training session on Monday before the team took flight to Turkey - but wasn’t ultimately fit enough to join his teammates. But the title-winning manager remains optimistic of having the former Roma goalkeeper at his disposal on Sunday.
“There’s definitely a chance, yeah, because we don’t expect it to be a big thing,” he said.
Alisson’s Liverpool future has been brought into focus in the last few weeks - with reports suggesting that Juventus and Inter Milan are readying offers for the summer.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is planning to trigger a one-year contract extension for the Brazil international - which will tie him to the club until 2027.
With his fitness becoming a regular issue for the Reds however his availability is going to have to improve - especially as his contract is reported to be worth over £150k per week.
