Arne Slot gets SACK update from Richard Hughes and FSG
Arne Slot got off to the best possible start as Liverpool head coach.
Signed from Feyenoord in summer 2024, the Dutchman oversaw a Premier League title-winning campaign at the first time of asking.
The Dutchman was backed by sporting director Richard Hughes last summer - fortifying his title-winning squad with £450m worth of new players.
But it’s not been the easiest transition to manage for the 47-year-old - with the club’s recent form plunging him into peril.
Under contract until 2027, it has been suggested that Slot could lose his job owing to a run of nine defeats in 12 matches.
Liverpool will back Arne Slot in January
That sad streak came to an end over the weekend with a 2-0 win over West Ham in London.
But improvements are still required for the Reds -who are languishing in mid-table and in danger of surrendering their crown without a significant fight.
Right now it appears Hughes and his Fenway Sports Group paymasters are NOT considering Slot - despite reports to the contrary. That’s because a report in Football Insider claims that the club’s owners are ready to spend again in January for Slot.
A centre-back will be uppermost in their thoughts - with a shortage in the position following a deadline day transfer miss for Marc Guehi and an injury to Giovanni Leoni.
'No desire' to sack Arne Slot
Slot can take encouragement that another transfer window of spending is being planned with him at the helm - and he will be given a chance to turn things around.
“There is still pressure on Slot despite Liverpool’s victory over West Ham on Sunday, even if the board currently have no desire to show him the door anytime soon,” the report reads.
“Instead, the attention appears to be to back the boss with plenty of resources once again, with the hope that he can turn their season around.
“There is no intention for the Merseysiders to rein in their spending mid-season, with centre-back outlined as a key area of concern for them.”
Assessing Liverpool's centre-back options
Liverpool have been linked with senior centre-back options including Nico Schlotterbeck, Ronald Araujo and Alessandro Bastoni.
There could also be another attempt to land Guehi from Crystal Palace as the Eagles’ skipper will have only six months on his contract.
Having overseen such a large, record-breaking outlay, FSG’s patience will be in limited supply. If Slot doesn’t manage to turn the tide following his January spending then there is a chance his position truly does get into danger.
