The Reds went into the break on the back of yet another Premier League defeat - their 10th of the season.

This Saturday Arne Slot’s side will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals - hoping that a trophy win will salvage their campaign.

The Brighton game featured Giorgi Mamardashvili in goal - with Alisson Becker once again reported absent through injury.

The Brazilian, 33, has just had a one-year extension to his contract triggered - meaning he will remain at Anfield until 2027.

But Liverpool were denied his services for the game against Brighton as well as a previous match earlier in the month against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Alisson's injuries building up once again

The goalkeeper was initially reported injured before the away clash against the Turkish giants on March 10. He returned to the lineup for the Tottenham game on March 15 and Gala on March 18 before dropping out again for the Brighton game at the Amex.

Alisson did not go on international duty with Brazil either - instead focussing on his recovery at the AXA Training Centre.

He posted a message to his social media channels confirming he would be out “for a while” but anyone hoping to see the shot-stopper in action against City this weekend may be in for disappointment.

Alisson could be out against City

Paul Joyce in the Times is reporting that there is currently “uncertainty” over when Alisson will return to the lineup - meaning it is likely that Mamardashvili gets another run out versus the Cityzens.

“There remains uncertainty with regard to when Alisson will be back in the first team after the Brazil goalkeeper also missed the loss at Brighton due to a muscle problem,” the report reads.

“He did not go on international duty and said he would be missing for “a while” after his latest injury setback.”

Liverpool made a big commitment in tying Alisson down to his new deal. He is reported to be earning upwards of £150k but misses a lot of matches - particularly for a goalkeeper - including seven weeks back in autumn.

It will be up to him to prove his fitness in the short-term and ensure that he stays ahead of Georgia international Mamardashvili in the pecking order.
