Arne Slot's Liverpool future has been under major scrutiny over the last few months.

The Anfield outfit have been a fraction of their former selves with most fans blaming the Dutchman for their downfall.

Whether its been the players that he's chosen to start or the formation he's decided to line his team up in, there's been one or two things that Slot has consistently got wrong.

Indeed, not all of the Reds' troubles are due to mistakes that Slot has made but at the moment, it's clear that some sort of change needs to be made.

Several managers have been linked with taking over from the Dutchman but Xabi Alonso's name is one that has stuck around with an update now being shared on Fenway Sports Groups' thoughts on hiring the Spaniard.

FSG only want Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot this summer

Although there are many well-known managers available this summer, it's clear that Alonso would be the preferred option for most parties.

The former Liverpool star may not have had the best time as the manager of Real Madrid but, with how challenging their dressing room was, it's hardly surprising to see his efforts get squandered.

Alvaro Arbeloa has taken over Los Blancos since Alonso's exit and there's already rumours of the dressing room losing faith in him which proves how unforgiving that role is.

And now, as per an update from TEAMtalk, FSG seem to have already made their mind up about whether or not they want Alonso at the helm.

The report starts off by saying that 'pressure is continuing to mount on Slot' with his position under 'significant scrutiny' this summer, not matter the outcome of the campaign.

Several 'senior figures' at Liverpool have acknowledged 'concerns' about many different things that have emerged from Anfield.

Alonso's availability has added 'additional focus' to Slot's future with the Spaniard being the 'only name' that FSG would consider replacing Slot with this summer.

TEAMtalk round up their report by stating that the next few months of the 2025-26 season will be 'pivotal' for Slot's future.

Arne Slot must get Liverpool back to their best before it's too late

Although it's highly unlikely that FSG will relieve Slot of his duties before the end of the season, if he gets knocked out of the Champions League and the FA Cup, there's no guarantees about what could happen to him.

The Dutchman's first season in charge of Liverpool was special and, although it's taken some time for his new signings to get adjusted to life at Anfield, it finally feels like some improvements are being made.

Indeed, their defeat to Wolves on Tuesday was awful but, the fact that they bounced back with an impressive 3-1 win during their FA Cup on Friday proves that they still have some fight left in them.

However, if Slot doesn't manage to get his team playing to that level in every game, there's no way that questions won't start to be asked about the Dutchman's future once again.

If this doesn't happen and he fails to step things up a gear or two, there's no knowing what could happen, especially with Alonso on the market.
