Liverpool enter transfer scrap with Man United for wonderkid Jose Mourinho loves
Liverpool's main transfer policy over the last few years has been centred around signing young talent.
The 2025-26 summer transfer window was the best example of this because players such as Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni were brought in.
Although others such as Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong are slightly older, it's clear that Arne Slot and Richard Hughes want to make signings to help them out for years to come, rather than just adding stop-gap solutions to their ranks.
A good example of this system working is Luis Diaz. Liverpool bought the Colombian for just under £40 million and, after they developed him and turned him into one of the world's best wingers, they sold him to Bayern Munich for £62.5 million.
This policy of signing young players with massive potential doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon, especially with the latest transfer rumour to emerge from Anfield.
Liverpool are keeping their eye on Benfica wonderkid Daniel Banjaqui
During the January transfer window, several teenagers were signed by Liverpool to help the club prepare for their future.
And, while they may not be ready to start for the Anfield outfit until a couple of years have passed, the fact that they have players that talented ready and waiting is essential.
At the moment, clubs are likely going to wait until the 2025-26 season finishes before any concrete moves are made for new players.
However, that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from turning with Benfica's Daniel Banjaqui now at heart of a multi-club transfer battle.
That is, according to a report from TEAMtalk who share that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all vying for the 17 year old's transfer.
Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the youngster with TEAMtalk confirming that the race is 'widening rapidly.'
Intermediaries have already spoken with Liverpool and Arsenal to keep them informed about his 'situation.'
The 17-year-old only has one year left on his contract with Benfica but, despite their best efforts, negotiations have 'failed' which could open the door for a transfer.
Daniel Banjaqui would be an interesting signing for Liverpool
Although most Liverpool fans won't have heard of Banjqui, the fact that Jose Mourinho loves him should say all that fans need to know.
The right-back was introduced into Benfica's starting XI by Mourinho and since then, he has featured 11 times for Benfica as a right-back and a right-winger.
Not only is Banjaqui one of Benfica's fastest players but he also loves to bomb forward and cause havoc for his opponents.
In addition to his attacking prowess, he's a more than competent defender which, after seeing Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones a right-back this season, is something that is much needed.
Indeed, Liverpool do already have Frimpong and Conor Bradley as their right-backs but, since Mohamed Salah could end up exiting, it feels like Frimpong will be moved further up the pitch next season.
And, even though Joe Gomez is still around, his injury history means that he can't be relied upon.
The fee required for Banjaqui isn't mentioned in the report but, if Liverpool believe he can be the next big thing, it feels like he'd be worth the transfer fee required, no matter the cost.
