Liverpool enter extraordinary talks to replace Mo Salah
Liverpool have reportedly entered extraordinary talks to replace Mo Salah.
Few players in the club's modern history have been adored as much as the Egyptian star. Salah has become Anfield's Egyptian King.
There is no question about him being a Liverpool legend.
His ability to score goals time and time again helped turn Liverpool back into a dominant force. Without him, there would be no 20th Premier League title for the Reds.
However, football moves quickly, and this summer may represent a natural turning point. Salah will have just one year remaining on his contract, and his form has dipped compared to the remarkable standards he set over previous seasons.
With interest from Saudi Arabia likely to remain strong, Liverpool may see this window as their final chance to command a significant transfer fee.
It would be a difficult decision but one that makes sense.
The only question is who would replace him? Well it seems like Richard Hughes has already set his sights on a bold target.
No one can replace Salah.
That is the short answer. Nobody is good enough to replace him. Salah is one of a kind. He's one of the best players on the planet and one of the best to ever play for the club.
But ultimately, there may be better-suited players for Liverpool's long-term project and players who fit Liverpool's system better.
Now according to Sebastien Vidal, Liverpool have entered talks with Moussa Diaby's entourage regarding a possible transfer to Anfield this summer.
The report claims he is seen as a 'credible' replacement for Salah and would cost just β¬30m.
There are no questions about this, it would be an extraordinary move from Richard Hughes. Replacing Salah with Diaby is not going to go down well with the fanbase.
However, signing him for such a low price would actually make a lot of sense because Diaby is kind of exactly what Arne Slot's system needs right now.
Or perhaps even Xabi Alonso, if he is to replace the Dutchman this summer.
He's an incredibly fast player and he's more of a creator than a goal-scorer. He has scored only three goals this season but Diaby also has 13 assists for Al Ittihad in all competitions.
Right now Liverpool have their goal-scorers in Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.
What they need is a facilitator who can create goals and improve the Reds on the flanks with direct speed and one vs one ability.
Diaby ticks a lot of these boxes. The fact that he's worked with Alonso and has played alongside Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz also works in his favour.
He's in his prime years right now, for as little as β¬30m, to bring him in as a squad player alongside someone like Yan Diomande, there would be a lot of logic to it.
