Liverpool are now reportedly in talks with a record-breaking star.

The madness of the January transfer window is about to commence very soon. Liverpool are not expected to be super busy but there might be a few surprises along the way.

Obviously, the club do not have an endless amount of money to spend. But there are objectives and targets they need to sign in order to bolster Arne Slot's squad.

If we're looking at the team right now as it is, there are some very obvious weaknesses in there.

For example, Liverpool are in desperate need of a new centre-back. They also need to sign a winger, in order to replace Luis Diaz and also to plan for life after Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian may stay at Anfield beyond the winter window, but it's moot for how long he will continue to represent the club.

In light of this news, it's interesting that according to TEAMtalk Liverpool are one of the clubs in talks with Jeremy Monga in order to sign the 16-year-old Leicester City winger.

The report claims that the Reds alongside Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and City as well as Newcastle United have 'all laid out their plans' for the youngster.

Monga is a generational talent. He was just the third youngest ever player to appear in the Premier League at 15 years and eight months old last season.

He's also Leicester's youngest starter in the EFL Cup and the youngest to score in the Championship. There will probably be more records he breaks along the way.

It's incredible to think that he has already played 21 games for Leicester and he won't be turning 17-years-old until next summer towards the middle of July.

A left-winger who is full of tricks and is extremely technical, Monga seems like an ideal profile. He's very much in line with Liverpool's policy when it comes to recruitment.

Over the last decade, the club has shifted towards trying to sign British young talent from across the United Kingdom at an early age.

Through this policy we've seen the likes of Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha arrive at Anfield.

The race is clearly quite intense when it comes to Monga, so the decision is in the youngster's hands. But Liverpool have shown that there is a pathway for young players to come through and make a name for themselves.

The question Monga will be needing to ask himself is the guarantee of first-team football and out of the clubs pursuing him few can offer a better development path than the Reds.
