Liverpool are set to enter key contract talks this weekend with a midfield sensation.

It's a frustrating time on Merseyside at the moment. But as far as Liverpool are concerned it's business as usual.

The boardroom are naturally going to be concerned about operations with the first-team. For now, Arne Slot's job is not under fire. How long that will remain the case is moot.

Away from the head-coach question, Liverpool also have some important contract negotiations that could very well determine the future trajectory of the club.

Right now, the club has an extremely exciting and talented group of young players in the academy. It's probably one of the most talented generations to have come through in the last decade.

There are three players heading into their scholarship season who are still yet to agree terms with the club, and who could leave come the end of the season.

The three players are Joshua Abe, Vincent Joseph and Erik Farkas. Abe is courted by Arsenal and Chelsea and is regarded as one of the best young players of his generation in England.

Joseph is also on the radar of Chelsea and other clubs in Europe due to him being eligible to move abroad as he holds a German passport and has represented Germany at youth level.

Farkas is in a similar situation. He holds a Hungarian passport, which means he is able to move to EU countries similar to Joseph. He's the subject of interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund as well as England's top clubs.

Farkas is seen as a unique profile by the club. Someone who is both technical and plays with a level of intensity that is tailor-made for the first-team. His versatility to play multiple midfield roles makes him probably the best-suited midfielder to make the step-up since Curtis Jones.

It's primarily because like Jones, Farkas can play as a no.6, no.8, no.10 and even as a winger.

The England U17 midfielder sat on the bench for Liverpool's U19 side in the UEFA Youth League against PSV on Wednesday. Had he entered the pitch, he would have become the fifth youngest player to play for Liverpool in the competition.

He has two assists in his last two appearances for the U18s, despite still only being an U16 player. Earlier this season Farkas made his debut in a friendly for the U21 team and registered an assist.

Anfield Watch can now exclusively reveal that Liverpool are set to enter talks with the youngster and his family over a scholarship deal this weekend.

Farkas and his family have been called into the AXA training centre on Saturday to begin conversations about what his future trajectory at the club could look like.

Liverpool are determined to keep him, with the youngster having been at the club since U11 level. With Erik Farkas' brother, Patrik having also represented Liverpool's academy the family has a special connection to Liverpool.

It is expected that Julian Ward will be part of the negotiations and Liverpool will do everything in their power to convince the youngster to stay at the club.
