Liverpool door opens for incredible double England international swap deal
Liverpool appear to have a major double swap deal on the cards. They'll have to give up an England star, however.
The January transfer window is done but attention is now firmly on the summer one. Liverpool, after all, have work to do.
Their enormous summer rebuild didn't deliver the all-conquering squad they hoped for. In fact, things have moved backwards since the Premier League title win last season.
It's going to take more work to get things back on track and we fully expect more player turnover as Liverpool attempt to correct things. That means outgoings as much as it means incomings.
One player whose future certainly isn't clear is Curtis Jones. The Scouser will have one year remaining on his deal come the summer and interest in him is high.
And high from some notable clubs. Clubs where Liverpool would be firmly interested in doing business the other way, too.
Swap deal season
Teamtalk names a host of clubs looking at Jones. Two of them, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, specifically want him to replace potential outgoings.
Palace are expected to sell Adam Wharton after this season. Similarly, Forest will face enormous interest in Elliot Anderson - and like the Eagles, they want a replacement.
Jones is well-placed to be just that. But that also opens a door for Liverpool, who have been linked with moves for both Wharton and Anderson over the last year.
Being able to offer a deal for Jones in talks could be what pushes one of those players to Anfield. Though, it would be a blow to lose the Liverpool star.
Some massive decisions to come, then, as the Reds figure out their squad for next season.
