Liverpool cult hero could REPLACE Arne Slot

Nobody wants Arne Slot to lose his job but if he does there's a cult hero who could replace him right now.

At this stage, it's far too early for Liverpool to be calling for the head-coach to be fired. Slot's season at the club is turning into a disaster.

However, it's not a complete catastrophe just yet. Liverpool are only two points away from a Champions League spot. It's been a horrible run of results but can Slot turn it around?

Based on what he has shown last season, he absolutely has it in his locker to get these players playing to a very high level again.

Ultimately, if results do not improve then there is no question that his job will come under threat.

No manager can sustain this level of results and performances for a long period of time. If they continue to happen Slot will have to go.

The question becomes, if Slot goes who else could come in?

Well, the managerial market is generally poor right now. Liverpool are in the process of building something. So why not bank on potential rather than the finished article.

A bit like what Arsenal did with Mikel Arteta, who finally seems to be delivering a Premier League title at the Emirates.

Liverpool have their own version of Arteta, too. He's working at Barcelona right now, learning from Hansi Flick.

Anfield cult hero Thiago Alcantara has always been known as an intelligent and cultured midfielder. His technical quality was by far one of the best in the world when he was playing. His football IQ was levels above anyone else.

Now he's embarked on a managerial career and he is currently an assistant at Barcelona.

He'd surely jump at a chance of moving up the ladder and becoming a head-coach. Is he ready for it? The answer is moot. You don't really know.

But given how poor the market is. Thiago could be an excellent temporary solution. During his time as a player he worked with the best managers in modern football - a bit like Xabi Alonso.

Thiago learned from Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, Jurgen Klopp and Hansi Flick.

He undoubtedly has major ambitions to become an elite manager himself and the opportunity to do it at a club where he is beloved is an opportunity he won't turn down.

It's a risky appointment. But even just temporarily if Slot does lose his job, Liverpool should look at Thiago as an option to replace him.

He'll know the squad well, having been teammates with a lot of them and he is someone who Liverpool fans will get behind.
