Liverpool could now sign 'outstanding' star instead of Jeremy Jacquet

Liverpool are coming off the back of a rather emphatic win against Newcastle on Saturday.

The Reds may have conceded the first goal of the game, but, in the end, a Hugo Ekitike-inspired performance was enough for them to seal the win.

The last two games that Arne Slot's men have been apart of this season have been two of their biggest victories this season.

And, although their 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag shouldn't really be looked into all that much, it's clear that things are finally starting to click in L4.

Despite this, Liverpool are still desperately short of defenders which is why it's hardly surprising that several players are being linked with an Anfield switch during the final few hours of the winter transfer window.

Lewis Steele confirms that Liverpool could make a move for Joel Ordonez

Now that Jeremie Frimpong is expected to be out of action for a few weeks, Liverpool only have Calvin Ramsay among their ranks who's a natural right-back.

The availability of their centre-backs is also a massive worry with both Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni both side lined at the moment.

This injury crisis has left the Anfield outfit in quite a pickle with Slot now admitting that a deal for a new defender could be on the cards.

And, even though Lutsharel Geertruida is rumoured to be on Liverpool's radar, it's not just him or Jeremy Jacquet who the Anfield outfit could sign.

That is, according to an update from Lewis Steele who said the following about Liverpool's defensive situation.

“The Ordonez one was parked, as you say. Parked, as in not completely shoved away, I got the impression,” the journalist said on The Redmen TV Podcast.

“It was more of a, ‘not one right now,’ but it wasn’t a, ‘he’s not one ever.’ It’s clear Liverpool have been at Club Brugge games to watch him, so that could be one to consider.

“But it looks like Jeremy Jacquet could be number one. He is one of the options but it appears that Chelsea are probably still the front-runners.”

Joel Ordonez could be exactly what Liverpool need

Even though Ordonez may only be 21 years old, he could be the perfect transfer for Liverpool.

The Ecuadorian has been described as an "outstanding" talent and is one of Club Brugge's best players with his ability to play in the centre of their defence or even as a defensive midfielder one of his key selling points.

Ordonez has been strongly linked with an Anfield switch over the last couple of transfer windows with a move in the summer seeming like a real possibility at one point.

Of course, nothing ever came to fruition but, with Ibrahima Konate's future still undecided and the lack of availability that Frimpong, Gomez and Conor Bradley have given Liverpool this season, signing a couple of new defenders is going to be essential for the club.

And, since he's already had some Champions League experience, he's likely to keep his cool when things get tough which is exactly what Liverpool need.
