Liverpool coach confirms winger wants to LEAVE

Liverpool's U21 coach has confirmed that one of the club's record-breaking wingers wants to leave the club.

Right now, Arne Slot isn't exactly spoiled for choice on the wings. He's got Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah starting every week. Behind them his back-up options are a 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha and a Federico Chiesa who he simply does not trust.

If he wanted to he could also play Jeremie Frimpong out of position, or Florian Wirtz. But both of them are better in their preferred roles.

So that's why Liverpool are pursuing other options. It's why even though it may not seem like it but a move for Antoine Semenyo makes a lot of sense.

Naturally though there will be players who will want to move on and one of those is a record-breaking star who actually hasn't had much of a look in under Slot.

Right now all the hype is about Ngumoha from the club's academy. But before him that was Kaide Gordon. The 21-year-old had arrived from Derby County and immediately caught the eye as a teenager.

At just 17 years, three months and four days old, Gordon became the club's youngest ever goal-scorer in the FA Cup when he netted against Shrewsbury.

But what has followed since has been a series of unfortunate injuries and unsuccessful loan spells.

It has meant that last summer Gordon was unable to secure a loan move, and he's had to stay at the club's U21 side. Although, he has recently made the bench in the League Cup for the first-team against Southampton.

For the U21s, Gordon has two assists and one goal in three appearances in the Premier League 2 and has made two appearances in the EFL Trophy, where he's been the best player for the young Reds both times.

After Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Everton in the Premier League 2, the club's U21 head-coach Rob Page spoke candidly about Gordon's situation as per Redmen TV and confirmed that the Reds' winger wanted to leave the club:

"He was obviously looking to go out on loan for his next step in his career. All he can do is maintain his level of performance like that, and the rest will take care of itself, whether it is here or elsewhere," Page said.

"He has just got to make sure that he brings that level to every game and come January, if he is continuing to play like that, there will be people at the door to take him, no doubt. We’re continuing to work every day with him, and there is still room for improvement, but when he gives performances like that, he has got to make people stand up and take note."

This pretty much confirms Gordon's goal for the next few months. He's got to be a stand-out player in the U21 team and he will want to make a loan move come the January window.

It's absolutely the right move for the young man, who still has a lot of potential. Perhaps in the future he may still be a useful player for Liverpool's first-team as well.
