Liverpool coach confirms he's ready to RETURN
After five defeats in his last six games Arne Slot is under pressure at Liverpool.
His job is not in danger just yet. Slot has enough in the bank as a Premier League title winner to have the trust and faith for him to turn things around.
Nonetheless the pattern and nature of Liverpool's defeats so far this season is a concern. The only consistency the Reds have shown so far is being bad at football.
And being particularly bad at not the very complex things but the simple things. Like defending set-pieces. Running back to chase down the opponents and keeping the ball to avoid transitions.
Football is a simple game made far more complicated by the mind and right now it feels like Slot needs to change something. He needs to instil confidence in his players.
What's one way you can do that? By bringing in change and new personnel. Jurgen Klopp was a big advocate for this. He always changed his backroom staff around, and he always brought in innovative people with fresh and new ideas.
Mikel Arteta at Arsenal now is doing the same thing.
Slot needs to take a page out of their book and bring a much needed figure back back to Anfield.
No, this is not about Klopp. He won't be coming back anytime soon. The chances of that are unlikely. However, there is a former coach who has confirmed he would be ready to return and take on his duties at the club again.
That coach is throw-in specialist Thomas Gronnenmark. The throw-in coach was employed by Liverpool under Klopp between 2018 and 2023 and then left the club.
He is currently a free agent and he replied to a social media post on X asking him to come back to Liverpool with the following message:
'Always ready to help mate,' Gronnenmark said.
Liverpool conceded from a long-throw against Brentford and they have struggled to utilise and make the most of their set-piece situations so the Dane's return to the club would be welcomed.
Under Gronnenmark Liverpool were quite dangerous in this area. Not only did he teach Liverpool's players how to take long-throws he also emphasised the need to take quick throws in order to catch the oppositions off guard.
At the elite level, every little edge that you can gain over your rivals matters. So bringing Gronnenmark back, who has now openly admitted he's ready to return, would be a shrewd move.
