Liverpool BID believed to be coming; Club ready to agree deal

One club believes Liverpool could bid for their player this month. And they're ready to agree a deal if they do.

Liverpool have some transfer work to do - that much is clear. The Reds’ mammoth £400m spend in the summer hasn’t brought a truly competitive squad and the winter window offers a chance to correct things a bit.

Though, even with that massive investment, Liverpool didn’t end up with the squad they wanted. They’re short on a centre-back and that was a problem that got even worse when Giovanni Leoni was ruled out for the season.

Joe Gomez’s fitness issues have continued, too, typically leaving Arne Slot with just two senior centre-backs to choose from. Is that a situation that Liverpool can accept for the rest of the campaign?

This month is the time to figure that out. And at least one club believes the Reds will decide that no, they can’t continue that way. They’re expecting an offer - and are ready to accept.

Marc Guehi to Liverpool?

The reason we know Liverpool wanted a new centre-back is because they quite openly pursued Marc Guehi. Crystal Palace, however, collapsed the deal right at the last moment.

But Guehi won't remain with the Eagles much longer. His contract expires at the end of the season and interest in him is very, very high.

And there's interest in a deal this month. Sky Sports list a plethora of elite clubs considering a move for Guehi: Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

They also claim that Palace believe Liverpool could bid again this month. It would certainly make sense for the Reds to do that and a deal is there to be done.

The suggestion is that Palace would accept a lower fee than they initially accepted from Liverpool in the summer. That was around £35m, so it comes down to how highly buyers value six extra months of Guehi.

Liverpool may value it highly, if they feel he's the difference between competing in the UEFA Champions League or not. We've still got three weeks to run in this window - and this could end up being the biggest deal Richard Hughes strikes.
