Liverpool and Richard Hughes guarantee new mega offer worth over €100m
Liverpool and Richard Hughes have just guaranteed a new mega offer worth over €100m. And that’s after agreeing a different one.
Liverpool have agreed a new contract with Ryan Gravenberch worth around €100m. There's no question the deal has been agreed, with the club formally announcing it, and it's De Telegraaf claiming the massive amount.
It works out at around £277k per week in basic wages. Liverpool are going all-in on Gravenberch, tying him down long term and making sure he's a part of the backbone of this team.
But it's a deal that brings up some other complications. By making this offer, Richard Hughes and co. have essentially guaranteed another €100m offer is on the way.
It simply has to be.
Dominik Szoboszlai: Situation Summary
Current Role and Statistical Impact
As of 8 March 2026, Dominik Szoboszlai remains a cornerstone of the Liverpool midfield under Arne Slot. The 25-year-old Hungarian captain has been involved in 18 goals across 39 appearances in all competitions this season, including four goals in the Premier League and four in the Champions League. A recent highlight was his long-range free kick against Manchester City, which earned a nomination for the Premier League Goal of the Month on 5 March. According to FotMob, he maintains an average performance rating of 7.45 in the league, reflecting his status as one of the division's most consistent creative outlets.
Transfer Speculation and Real Madrid
The stability of Szoboszlai’s future at Anfield has come under scrutiny following comments from Hungary manager Marco Rossi on 5 March 2026. Rossi told Marca that playing for Real Madrid has "always been Szoboszlai’s dream," sparking fears among supporters that the midfielder could follow the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital. While his representative, Matyas Esterhazy, has dismissed these reports as "not a topic" for discussion right now, the speculation has led to increased pressure on the club to secure his long-term commitment.
Contract Status and Tactical Importance
Szoboszlai is currently under contract until June 2028, but Liverpool’s hierarchy has reportedly made a new deal a top priority following Ryan Gravenberch’s recent extension until 2032. Sporting Director Richard Hughes is expected to offer improved terms to reflect Szoboszlai's immense tactical value; he leads the squad with 142 ball recoveries this season and has filled roles as a No. 10, a central midfielder, and a makeshift right-back. He played the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 FA Cup win over Wolves on 6 March and is a certain starter for the Champions League clash against Galatasaray on 10 March.
The Gravenberch impact
Dominik Szoboszlai is also in contract talks with Liverpool. He's a top priority - but one who might argue he should boast a bigger deal than Gravenberch.
After all, Szoboszlai has been Liverpool's best player this season in the eyes of many. Things might have been different back in the summer after the Dutchman made the PFA Team of the Year but now? Szoboszlai has been absolutely integral to Liverpool this season.
His versatility, his goals, his energy. Liverpool would be much, much worse off if not for Szoboszlai, who has significantly boosted his reputation this campaign.
So if Gravenberch is getting €100m across his deal, the Hungary captain will want at least that. We imagine much more, given the talk of Real Madrid's interest is much strong than it was with his teammate.
This contract is a guarantee, then, that Szoboszlai is getting a similar offer. Whether he accepts it or not is another matter - but the money simply must be going on the table.
Otherwise, why even bother making an offer?
