It’s getting increasingly difficult to keep up with Liverpool’s summer transfer business. The club are not content with adding Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike.

Even more signings are planned - at centre-back and potentially on the wings should the opportunity arise. Uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate could see the Frenchman sold and Marc Guehi brought to Anfield as a replacement.

And depending on outgoings then sporting director Richard Hughes could move for a new forward.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez could BOTH leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window - giving the Merseysiders plenty of money in the hunt for new attacking options.

Newcastle are very much in the Reds’ sights - with chief attacking threat Alexander Isak a target.

Liverpool tipped to come back for Gordon

The Geordies are seeking a British record fee for the Swede - over £120m - and Liverpool would then be in a race against time to conclude a deal before the end of the transfer window.

A move for Isak would be completely separate to a deal for Ekitike but should it be unachievable then there is another player on the Newcastle roster who could come back into focus.

Liverpool tried to sign Anthony Gordon, 24, last summer when Newcastle were in financial trouble. Having managed to offload Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh however, Newcastle decided to keep the England international around.

Gordon: The interest is STILL there

They even succeeded in tying Gordon to a new contract - thereby protecting his transfer value - but could face the threat of losing the winger again.

That’s according to Ben Jacobs, noted transfer journalist, who claims the Reds could PIVOT from a deal for Isak to one for Gordon instead.

"Anthony Gordon is the one that they almost got done a year ago. So of course, the long-standing interest is there," Jacobs told the Born N’Red YouTube channel.

Liverpool pivot to Gordon?

"We mustn’t forget that when Newcastle had this PSR hole… they had Gordon lined up. It was a verbally done deal.

"And then within a few hours, Elliot Anderson went to Nottingham Forest, Yankuba Minteh went to Brighton, and Newcastle were able to say: 'We found the cumulative money that we’re looking for. So we don’t need to sell Gordon’.

"Gordon was on England duty. His head was turned. He wanted the move. And it fell through basically because Newcastle got in a healthier PSR position.

"That appreciation for Anthony Gordon hasn’t gone away either.

"There might be a scenario where they try for Isak, can’t get Isak, and pivot to Anthony Gordon. We’ll have to wait and see."

If Diaz leaves then Gordon could be seen as a like-for-like replacement on the left wing. That in turn would leave Ekitike free to occupy the No9 role on a full-time basis - at least until a move for Isak is revived down the line.
