Liverpool allude at Ibrahima Konate future with IMMEDIATE transfer wish

Liverpool have dropped a hint to Ibrahima Konate’s future. They’ve got an immediate transfer wish.

What is Ibrahima Konate going to do? The French defender is out of contract in the summer and is yet to agree on a new deal.

He's free to leave for nothing, should he wish, while Liverpool don't want that to happen. At the same time, they're clearly unable to give him everything he wants.

Konate may fancy a chance of scenery - something the Reds certainly cannot give him - or he may see other clubs offering more trophies in the near future. Then there's the money factor - one that typically proves divisive as stars near the end of their contracts.

After all, he can almost certainly command a far bigger contract on the open market than he has right now. Liverpool won't see that same value in Konate given nearly all the other players in their squad were not signed on the open market.

It inflates demands - and Liverpool like to be tight with their budget. At the same time, can they really afford to lose him? We're not sure, not at a time when every other defender has major question marks over them.

As for what's going to happen, perhaps Liverpool have offered a hint,

The Jeremy Jacquet plan

Liverpool are one of a few teams pushing to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Importantly, Fabrizio Romano claims they'd sign him right now if the French side were willing sellers.

Now, that would suggest that Liverpool do have a grasp on what their centre-back situation will be in the summer. The fact they'd be willing to move now rather than wait for Konate's decision to play out hints that way.

And moving for Jacquet, a 20-year-old with relative inexperience, tells us he's staying. Liverpool surely wouldn't bank on such an untested talent, as good as he is, if Konate were leaving the club this summer.

Any replacement to sit alongside Virgil van Dijk as a first-choice player would need to be older, more proven. Someone in the mould of Nico Schlotterbeck or, of course, Marc Guehi.

But paying a lot of money on Jacquet only to do so with another centre-back in the same window? That feels unlikely, even if Liverpool did just do that at centre-forward.

For us, this is a sign that Konate has made up his mind. It's the only way this all makes sense.
