Liverpool AGREE terms on late deal with player yet to decide

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a late deal. The player is yet to decide on the move, however.

There isn't much time left at all in the January transfer window but it's starting to sound as though Liverpool might have work to do. Of course, everyone expected some sort of business this month - they just expected it weeks ago.

But the plan was to stick with what they've got. Liverpool didn't want to make many, if any, moves but then circumstances do change.

Injuries have torn through the squad, particularly in defence. It's left the club willing to see what's out there, while also altering some other moves.

Andy Robertson appeared set to leave Liverpool for Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, everything was agreed between the clubs and the player. The only issue was that the Reds needed someone to replace him in the squad.

They had a choice, too: Kostas Tsimikas. Bringing him back from his loan at AS Roma - something the Italians were more than happy to provide - would allow Robertson to depart.

However, things have changed in a way people didn't necessarily see coming.

Kostas Tsimikas to Besiktas?

There was a holdup in getting Tsimikas back to Liverpool. Roma also wanted cover at left-back if they were to drop one of their options and were struggling to do so.

And so it felt that the moment they gave the green light, Tsimikas would leave Roma, rejoin Liverpool and then Robertson could head to Spurs. The second half of that appears to have changed.

Journalist Santi Aouna reports that Liverpool have now agreed a deal with Besiktas for Tsimikas to head there on loan for the second half of the campaign. It's now just down to the player.

That's an interesting one, then, as it seems Roma have given that green light. Liverpool aren't using it to sell Robertson, however, and will instead move Tsimikas to a different club.

That suggests the Robertson deal is off the table. Maybe that's the Scot's choice. Maybe it's because the injuries at the back mean losing such an experienced player would be absolutely insane.

As for Tsimikas, it seems he's off somwhere new where hopefully he can get more game time after struggling for consistency in Rome.
