Jamie Carragher’s BRAVE Arne Slot verdict proven right
Jamie Carragher has had plenty to say about Liverpool this season, even if that does mean going against the majority of the fans' opinions.
The Reds have not had the best of seasons overall, but things look like they might be starting to pick up, although how many times have we said that before?
Their 3-0 win away to Marseille in the Champions League certainly is a statement result, with this perhaps easing a little bit of pressure that is on Arne Slot's shoulders.
A lot of supporters have called for his head numerous times already this season, which may seem harsh given that he won Liverpool the title not too long ago, but in fairness, results have been abysmal.
Carragher, however, is one of those who has stuck by the Dutchman through thick and thin, with his latest comments about the Reds boss being proven exactly right.
Jamie Carragher urged Liverpool fans to give Arne Slot time and respect
Of course, not every supporter wants Slot out of the club, but it is safe to say that a large majority do, or at least have done at some point this season.
If they fail to beat Bournemouth at the weekend, it would mean that Liverpool have not won in the Premier League for over a month, with this a record that should not be associated with the reigning champions.
However, despite this, Carragher still urged Liverpool fans to show Slot more respect and give him more time before facing Marseille in the Champions League, with this result only proving why he is exactly right.
"I think that some of the criticism the manager has had, and he gets from some Liverpool supporters, is way out of line and way over the top," he said on CBS Sports.
"I get a bit frustrated on his part. He is very calm and measured. He was like that last year and is like it right now. I think he deserves a lot more respect from Liverpool supporters for what he's done in his first season.
"He should be given the opportunity and time in the second half of the season to get Liverpool back on track."
Arne Slot's job is still not safe yet
Although the win against Marseille was very impressive, Liverpool really should be winning a game like that anyway, with it only a surprise due to their recent form.
However, to manage one of the best teams in the world, consistency is needed, so if the Reds fail to follow this up against Bournemouth and then Qarabag, then Slot could be in trouble.
Champions League results alone will not be enough to keep him his job so he needs to find a balance, and with someone like Xabi Alonso now waiting in the wings, pressure only increases.
This is certainly a good starting point and like Carragher said, fans need to get behind Slot and the team, but it is hard to argue against why many will want him gone if they cannot kick on from here.
