Liverpool are long-term admirers of Jamal Musiala. A release clause in his contract hands them an incredible transfer goal.

Rewind to 2024 and Jamal Musiala was in the sights of Liverpool's transfer gurus. The Reds were hoping to take advantage of the playmakers contract situation at Bayern Munich to steal one of the game's most talented playmakers.

Now, things took several turns from there. Bayern would tie Musiala down to a long-term deal, while Liverpool instead changed paths and signed Florian Wirtz as their new playmaker.

Wirtz, however, was a player very much wanted at Bayern. Liverpool shocked everyone with the deal, snapping up an elite German talent who everyone thought was destined for Bavaria.

But what if that partnership is actually destined to be - but at Anfield?

Jamal Musiala's release clause

Bild reports that there is in fact a release clause in Musiala's new Bayern contract. That contract runs until 2030 and teams can snap him up for around €165m right now.

It's still a lot of money, of course - it would be a British transfer record. But the really interesting thing is that the release clause drops in value for Musiala's last year.

He can be signed for €100m in 2029. It's important to remember that such a deal would be for just one year of Musiala but given he's a sensational talent, and couple that with a natural inflation in transfer fees, it's possible that a club like Liverpool may be inclined to bite.

After all, they were willing to pay around £30m to sign Marc Guehi this summer for just one extra year of him. Surely Musiala is worth doing similar for, even at his massive price?

Liverpool are huge fans of Musiala along with every other club. If he does end up being available, be it through the end of his contract or with a release clause, they'll almost certainly have a look.

A transfer goal for 2029? Or sooner?
