It's time for Arne Slot to finally UNLEASH neglected superstar

Arne Slot has to finally unleash Liverpool's neglected star.

The Dutchman cannot keep getting away with it. No, we are not just talking about Cody Gakpo continuing to start games for Liverpool. We're also talking about Slot continuing to fail to pick up three points.

Results have gone from bad to worse and they have been accompanied by performances as well. Liverpool have simply been astonishingly poor during this period under Slot.

What seemed like a run of bad form is now turning into consistent failings. Liverpool simply look out of sorts and completely out of shape.

Slot has lost his grip on the Premier League. He seems to not quite have a clue at how to turn things around and what his best system or best set of players should be at any given time.

One of the most heinous errors Slot has committed so far this season, and probably last season as well has been his neglect of Federico Chiesa.

Every time the Italian is on the pitch, he delivers. Against Sunderland on Wednesday night he made another key contribution.

This time it was not in front of the opponent's goal but a last-minute sprint back to his own goal to deny Wilson Isidor what looked like a certain goal after he rounded Alisson Becker.

It was a remarkable effort from the Liverpool fan favourite and yet more evident example of the desire Chiesa has for the shirt. Never has a player shown such commitment despite playing so few minutes.

You simply cannot argue with the numbers either.

Chiesa averages more goals and assists than anyone for Liverpool this season (1.14 per 90). Only Hugo Ekitike averages more goals per 90 (0.48) and no one averages more assists (0.68) per 90 minutes than the Italian.

What is even more damning is that Federico Chiesa averages the most interceptions and tackles per 90 minutes as well (5) which is a clear indication of his desire.

Naturally his numbers are going to be skewed because he rarely starts games for Liverpool and rarely gets an opportunity. His minutes and the sample size we are looking at is extremely small. It's 396 minutes. Only Wataru Endo, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha have spent less time on the pitch from Liverpool's first-team squad.

Yet when Chiesa is on the pitch, he is brilliant. So, he cannot be ignored.

It's for Slot to finally unleash his neglected star. Chiesa has to start against Leeds United. Give the people what they want.
