Inexcusable: 3 Liverpool stars MUST start from now on

© IMAGO

Liverpool sunk to a fourth consecutive defeat on Sunday against Manchester United at Anfield. It's now time to shake things up.

That's now four defeats in a row across all competitions. Safe to say that's not good enough for Liverpool - especially one who spent so extravagantly over the summer transfer window.

The Reds were supposed to be unstoppable as they 'clearly' upgraded a title-winning team. Instead, they've moved backwards and look a shadow of what they were last season.

A lack of creativity, a lack of ball progression, and a lack of any real solidity defensively. It's been shocking to see but this is a group of players who quite clearly haven't fit together correctly.

Things now need shaking up as Arne Slot attempts to find the right blend because a fifth consecutive defeat would be inexcusable. So with that in mind, three players simply must start.

Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz was, as far as I'm concerned, the most exciting of Liverpool's summer signings. By some way, too - he's one of the most talented players in the world.

And yet, he's been out of the starting XI for the last two games and what would you know? Liverpool were losing without a goal in both fixtures as he came on.

The difference in performance levels are massive once Wirtz is there. The team still struggle to function properly in attack but they move the ball infinitely better.

The key here isn't getting Wirtz out of the team - it's about moving things around so he becomes more influential.

Hugo Ekitike

It's absolute insanity that Hugo Ekitike has been dropped. Yes, Alexander Isak is the record signing but Ekitike is essentially the only attack who has consistently performed this season.

Three goals and an assist in seven Premier League appearances, two of which were from the bench. And it was his dribble that led to the goal against Manchester United.

With or without Isak, Ekitike should be in the XI. Even if it's simply because he's the most likely to score.

Federico Chiesa

What are we doing here? Federico Chiesa has one Premier League start to his name ever but it's unclear what more he needs to do to start.

Here are the facts: in 108 Premier League minutes with Chiesa on the pitch last season, Liverpool scored five times. In 88 minutes with him on the pitch this season, Liverpool have scored seven times.

Chiesa now has two goals and an assist this season and he's yet to play 90 minutes total. Get him in the team.
