One incredible attacker is coming back to save Liverpool.

Injuries have clearly been a significant factor in Liverpool’s fortunes this season. While other elements have also contributed, it would be misleading to suggest injuries haven’t had an impact.

Rather than sheer numbers, it’s the severity and timing of those injuries - particularly long-term setbacks to key players - that have hurt the Reds most.

Arne Slot has had to contend with several major disruptions, limiting his ability to consistently field his strongest XI, especially in attack.

In the end, these absences could prove decisive in shaping how Liverpool’s season unfolds.

Missing crucial players has left them battling much lower in the table than anticipated, turning what should have been a push at the top into a far more difficult fight.

There is now a real possibility that Liverpool could miss out on Champions League qualification. With English clubs underperforming in the knockout stages, even a fifth-place finish may not be enough this year.

Regardless, Liverpool already face an uphill battle - currently sitting sixth and showing little sign of mounting a serious challenge for the top four or even fifth place.

After a summer outlay approaching £450m, the current situation is deeply underwhelming. It’s no surprise that many Liverpool supporters are calling for Arne Slot to step down.

That said, there is an important mitigating factor that often goes overlooked. Slot has effectively been without his most expensive signing for nearly the entire season.

Many seem to have forgotten that Alexander Isak is, in fact, a Liverpool player. His absence has been so prolonged that he’s almost faded from the conversation.

He arrived lacking match fitness amid a chaotic summer, then needed time to adapt to his new surroundings and regain sharpness. Just as he began to find his footing, he suffered a broken leg, ruling him out for months while he continued his recovery behind the scenes at the AXA Training Centre.

The positive news for Liverpool is that their forgotten star is nearing a return. Isak has resumed training with the squad following the international break and could even feature in the upcoming clash with Manchester City.

What a boost that could be to Liverpool's final push towards Champions League qualification. Having Isak back could save the Reds their entire season.

People forget just how good he is. He is an incredible striker who has been one of the most prolific forwards in the Premier League over the course of the last few years.

Liverpool won't want to rush him back too soon of course. He will need time, he absolutely is going to take time.

But towards the end of April and the start of May, when the real tough fixtures begin, if Isak is able to play and make a contribution, even get close to the level he played last season - that might just be enough to clinch fourth or fifth spot, beating Chelsea and Manchester United or even Aston Villa in the race.

That's how important Isak is and that is why the club paid so much money for him.

Thankfully, he's now finally on his way back and he can become the hero we all need him to be at last.
