Ibrahima Konate has been one of Liverpool's worst-performing players this season but Arne Slot is still choosing to start him.

Since the start of the 2025-26 campaign, one of the main talking points to emerge from Anfield has been about where the future of the Frenchman lies.

Most people thought that Konate would exit Liverpool and end up joining Real Madrid but since they've pulled out of the race, it feels like he's now more likely to sign a contract extension.

However, even though Konate has been chosen for almost every game this season by Slot the former Feyenoord boss has now said something that could mark the end of the centre-back's Liverpool stint.

Going into Saturday's Premier League clash against Leeds United, some fans were feeling positive about Liverpool's chances.

And, while there were moments throughout the game that made it seem like a win was on the cards, Konate gave the West Yorkshire outfit a lifeline which gave them their mojo back.

His foul on Willy Gnonto resulted in Daniel Farke's men being awarded a penalty which Dominic Calvert-Lewin put away.

And, from that point on, Konate's confidence was non-existent with the centre-back giving away needless opportunities and arguably being Liverpool's worst player.

While speaking to the media after the game, Liverpool boss Slot shared his thoughts on the Frenchman's performance and how he really felt about the numerous mistakes he made throughout the clash.

"Unfortunately for him he does a lot of things well but he has been a bit too much at the crime scene," he said in quotes relayed by Lewis Steele.

"Today it was a tackle that came from effort, he tried everything to block the cross."

Liverpool must drop Ibrahima Konate before it's too late

Konate has been the cause of several problems that Liverpool have faced this season.

The centre-back has been in some of his worst form ever with his performances often single-handedly costing Liverpool points.

Since the start of the 2025-26 campaign, it feels like the Frenchman has been a completely different player compared to his usual self.

He was an key cog in the Reds' plans last term but at the moment, it feels like the they'd genuinely be better off without him.

This is why Slot needs to figure out a way to drop him from his starting XI, especially if he wants to get his first-team squad back on track.
