Hugo Ekitike's regen is coming to Liverpool's first-team very soon.

It's fair to say that right now the Frenchman is becoming a fan favourite at Anfield. Ekitike has grown and grown in stature since joining the club.

With 12 goal contributions in all competitions already and a brace in back-to-back games in the Premier League, it's easy to see why so many are so enamoured by him.

Ekitike is a massive goal threat. He's constantly running and causing mayhem for opposition defenders. He's fast and technical and he's brilliant at linking up the play and taking players on.

Ultimately, he's the perfect modern day forward. The kind of forward who Liverpool haven't really had since Roberto Firmino.

But now they have two. Because there's another similar profile of player coming to Liverpool's first-team very soon.

Josh Sonni-Lambie has stepped up time and time again for Liverpool at youth level this season. He scored when promoted to the U19s, he registered a crucial assist and made a game changing cameo when playing for the U21s against Chesterfield in the EFL Trophy and he's been the star of the U18 team.

At the weekend, he scored again. This time in the FA Youth Cup in a 3-2 defeat to Charlton.

The goal has taken him to 18 goal contributions in 22 game, which is an incredible return from the 17-year-old, and a clear sign that he's heading in the right direction, edging closer to a first-team opportunity.

The goal contributions will be eye-catching with Sonni-Lambie, but there's more to him than just that. There's a reason why we called him an Ekitike regen, and part of that reason is that he's a modern day forward as well.

He doesn't just score goals, he creates chances, he links-up with his teammates, he takes players on and he's constantly moving.

That link-up play is his best ability. It's why even though he's a forward, he's often been played as a false nine or as an attacking midfielder just behind the striker.

Having only been picked up by Liverpool at the age of 14, with no previous academy experience, apart from playing at grassroots level in London, there's a bit of freedom in his style of play.

Sonni-Lambie often comes up with creative solutions, similar to Ekitike. He's not afraid to do a heel flick, or attempt something extraordinary.

Liverpool need those type of players in the first-team.

Arne Slot's men don't really have a back-up forward to Isak and Ekitike, so it does feel inevitable that ultimately Sonni-Lambie is going to join the first-team and take up that deputy role.

Which he absolutely deserves.
