The expected departure of Mo Salah this summer alongside Andy Robertson very much feels like the final chapter of one of the greatest periods in the club's history.

Salah has been the face of Liverpool’s modern golden years. Robertson was the charming backbone of the dressing room.

Together they formed the symbol of what Liverpool represented. These were players who were never supposed to be superstars. Players with humble backgrounds who were able to conquer the world and achieve success beyond their wildest imaginations.

Their departure will leave merely just a few players left from the team that won the Champions League in 2019.

It follows a major exodus last summer, when several key players moved on including the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and others. That was the beginning of the process of transition.

And it's set to continue beyond this summer and behind the scenes as well.

Michael Edwards has faced growing scrutiny in recent weeks following reports that FSG’s plans to acquire a second club have now been put on hold.

When Edwards returned to Liverpool, his role was intended to extend beyond overseeing the club’s football operations, potentially including responsibilities across a wider multi-club model.

However, with those expansion plans now unlikely to progress it's moot where he stands in terms of his Liverpool future and what his role actually is.

Currently, Edward's contract expires in 2027, this was signed two years ago and at the time there were lofty ambitions that Edwards harboured.

But none of this has really come to fruition. Liverpool's big rebuild is looking like a mess right now. The club's sporting director, Richard Hughes, who is a friend of Edwards also seems to be getting a lot of blame for how the summer unfolded.

Now, there's an interesting report in The Telegraph pertaining to Edwards and Hughes' future.

This report claims that they signed a contract until 2027 with the intention to stay for those three years and no longer.

So, if this report is to be believed, that means Edwards and Hughes are going to be leaving the club next year. This is therefore is their final summer window before even more change is on the way.

How this is sustainable for the club is moot. This is just creating further turbulence to an already chaotic situation and that is a massive concern for Liverpool.

If the above report is true, dark times could be on the way at Anfield. The likes of which will cast a huge shadow over the golden years of the Jurgen Klopp era.
