The term “legend” gets thrown around a lot in football these days, but few truly deserve it.

For Liverpool, Emile Heskey is certainly one of them. A key figure during an iconic era, he helped the club secure a treble in 2001.

Heskey formed a formidable partnership with Michael Owen, racking up over 200 appearances and six trophies during his four years at Anfield.

Even after retiring, he remains a familiar face, appearing in matches for Liverpool’s Legends team and maintaining his status as a club icon.

Interestingly, both of his sons Reigan and Jaden have taken a different route, representing Manchester City rather than following in their father’s footsteps at Liverpool.

Of the two, Reigan seems to have the bigger potential, recently putting on a thrilling display that suggests he could be the next exciting talent to emerge from City’s academy and it should also alert the attention of Richard Hughes.

Reigan Heskey sends come and get me plea

Reigan Heskey is just 18-years-old and was actually born in Liverpool. He's regarded as a similar prospect to Rio Ngumoha.

Heskey finished last season with 36 goal contributions in 41 matches for City across all competitions. At Liverpool, this would have merited more opportunities. Ngumoha was given a chance for less.

However, the pathway for him at City has been limited.

In the current campaign, Heskey moved up to play U21 football a lot more often and he has 21 goal contributions in 30 matches at academy level.

Meanwhile, at the U17 World Cup he scored four goals and registered three assists in five matches for England.

So far, all this has merited at first-team level is a single appearance for seven minutes against Huddersfield in the League Cup.

Despite City's attackers struggling recently, there's still no sign of a pathway for Heskey.

Over the last few years, we've seen many academy talent leave City at around a similar age in their careers.

Jadon Sancho and Jamie Gittens went to Borussia Dortmund. Jeremie Frimpong joined Celtic. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer found a home at Chelsea.

For Liam Delap, it was at Ipswich meanwhile, Morgan Rogers joined Middlesbrough before finding himself at Aston Villa.

All of the aforementioned players were stand-out talents in the City academy but opted to leave because their paths were blocked to the first team.

Heskey is very much in the same boat with little ability to progress further into the first team. This is something Liverpool can provide and have done so time and time again.

His recent performance against Liverpool's arch rivals, Everton, in the FA Youth Cup should have been a come and get me plea to Hughes.

Heskey was brilliant on the night and showcased why he's one of the best attacking prospects in England. A left-winger with speed and directness and a brilliant shot, Heskey scored a fantastic goal.

He was the best player on the pitch and helped his side to a 3-0 victory.

Right now, Liverpool are lacking in depth in the winger department which is why this deal makes so much sense. Just as Chelsea lured Palmer, Hughes should look to sign Heskey.

With a name like that, he belongs at Anfield.
