Forward finally returns from injury after months away
An exciting forward has returned from injury.
There are moments in a season that can define an entire campaign. Injuries play a key part of any season for any club.
Liverpool have been wracked by them this season. Arne Slot can lament a number of key injuries especially in the forward line.
Currently, Alexander Isak is out at the moment which has led to a lot of the burden of scoring falling on Hugo Ekitike's shoulders.
The Frenchman is still young and he's done well in Isak's absence, but he would clearly benefit from a rest.
The problem is that right now Slot doesn't really have anyone else to call upon in order to play that no.9 role.
With Champions League games and FA Cup matches coming up, that is a concern. However, thankfully, Liverpool do have a massive boost coming.
The big reason why such a burden has had to fallen on Ekitike is because Liverpool don't even have a third back-up striker. Well, they do but he's been injured for a while.
Jayden Danns is well liked by Slot. He is a very highly regarded player at the club. However, he has been plagued by injuries over the course of the last season and a half.
This has seen him miss most of the season so far, being ruled out in October of last year.
However, Liverpool's official page shared some exciting news with Danns returning from his injury and being part of the U21s training session on Tuesday.
It's brilliant news.
For a young forward trying to build momentum, injuries can be particularly disruptive. Rhythm matters and confidence is also important. Injuries taint both.
Danns had just begun to edge himself into first-team thinking before his latest setback.
He's a great physical player with a lot of important attributes that make him an ideal forward. However, he needs momentum and minutes and that hasn't been afforded to him.
Liverpool will not rush him back.
They are going to have to be very careful to make sure there are not further injury concerns. At 20-years-old, he is still extremely young and his body has grown over the last few years.
He's not the only elite forward who has struggled with a growth spurt. Erling Haaland also had similar problems at a younger age before he exploded onto the scene.
Danns in time can do the same. The fact that he's back in training is great news. Perhaps at some point next month as the schedule gets busier we may even see a little bit of him for the first team.
Going into the final stretch of the season, having a fit and available Danns could be a massive boost for Liverpool.
