Forgotten star set to give Liverpool massive boost amid crisis
Liverpool are currently in the midst of arguably their worst injury crisis in recent memory, with only 11 senior players definitely available for Sunday’s clash against Wolves.
The news of Alexander Isak’s leg break and subsequent surgery adds salt to the wound, and Dominik Szoboszlai’s suspension means Liverpool’s squad is critically depleted.
Injury has hit across all areas of the pitch and threatens to derail a Liverpool team that has already struggled to find form this campaign.
The Reds have managed to put a decent run of results together, and a promising star could be set to return at just the right time.
Forgotten star set to return to depleted Liverpool first-team
Amidst all the bad injury news coming out of the AXA training centre, Liverpool released a subtle but positive update on the fitness of Stefen Bajcetic.
In a release of training images on Tuesday night, Bajcetic was pictured multiple times taking part in gym work with his teammates.
The 21-year-old midfielder last played for the Reds in May 2024 but could soon be set for a return to the first-team squad.
An injury to Wataru Endo and Szoboszlai’s suspension could even see the Spaniard make the squad for Sunday’s clash against Wolves, although that match may come too soon for him.
Arne Slot’s recent tactical changes have seen Liverpool deploy four midfielders instead of their usual three, and the opportunity is there for Bajcetic to win minutes when he does return to the fold at Liverpool.
Liverpool’s bigger injury picture
Bajcetic isn’t the only player on the cusp of a return, with Cody Gakpo and Conor Bradley also believed to be nearing the end of their recovery periods.
Ibrahima Konate however has been added as another doubt ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wolves.
Jack Lusby claimed on X that the Frenchman didn’t partake in Tuesday’s training session and met with the Liverpool medical team at the training centre instead.
Academy prospects including Wellity Lucky, Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni could also play a bigger part in Slot’s plans over the coming weeks, with the trio currently only having played a fringe role in the Reds’ campaign.
It remains to be seen exactly when Bajcetic will be back on the pitch for Liverpool, but supporters will be encouraged to see him back with the first-team squad at the AXA training centre.
