Forgotten new signing will now save Liverpool's season

An already forgotten new signing could save Liverpool's season and their injury problems.

There's been many conversations around the club in January over the crisis Arne Slot has on his hands. Liverpool needed to sign a centre-back and they did sign one in Jeremy Jacquet but he won't be coming to the club until the summer.

For now, Liverpool are left with depleted options.

Joe Gomez is currently injured. Giovanni Leoni is ruled out for the rest of the season. Conor Bradley is the same. Jeremie Frimpong is also injured.

At academy level, Wellity Lucky is out for a couple of months meanwhile Amara Nallo picked up an injury against MSK Zilina in the UEFA Youth League.

So currently, Slot has just Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk to choose from as his centre-back options. Or does he?

There are alternatives. Wataru Endo has played as a centre-back and Ryan Gravenberch could be another option for Slot.

But there might soon be a more appropriate solution. Someone who is actually a centre-back by trade.

It's been forgotten about because he had a small knock, and hasn't featured for the Reds yet but Liverpool also signed Mor Talla Ndiaye for a significant fee from Senegal second tier side, Amitie FC, in January.

The 18-year-old centre-back should be joining training sessions very soon after a minor issue and given Liverpool's lack of depth in the department, he could very well find himself with a golden opportunity at first-team level.

Depending on the extent of Nallo's injury, Ndiaye could quickly become the starting centre-back for Liverpool's U21 side and also the cover on the bench for the first-team.

Liverpool signed Ndiaye with a long-term vision. They signed him for his exciting potential, which he exhibited at the U17 World Cup for Senegal.

But it's also important to note that Ndiaye also has experience in senior football playing in Senegal's second tier, and regularly coming up against more developed and older players than himself.

Obviously, the jump up from Africa to the Premier League is huge. Some players can take to it like a duck to water.

Ndiaye will never be expected to make his mark on the first-team in the next few months. But there's no denying with injuries to Nallo and Lucky, and Gomez's constant niggles, this is a golden opportunity for him to become a saviour of sorts and give Slot the depth he desperately needs.

If Ndiaye can prove himself in first-team training and catch the attention of the club's head-coach there's a good chance he could play a role for Liverpool from now until the rest of the season.
