Fabrizio Romano shares UPDATE on last-ditch Liverpool transfer
Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on a last-ditch Liverpool transfer. The Reds are trying.
There are just a few days remaining in the January transfer window. Liverpool quite plainly went into the window with a plan: do nothing.
They wanted to stick with what they've got unless the perfect signing pops up. It's been suggest that Jeremy Jacquet is that signing, though Rennes aren't willing to sell.
Or at least, that's the line.
But Liverpool's injury problems have created an immediate need for something to happen. They have no fit right-backs, are down on at least one centre-back, and know full well that their defence won't be fully available before the season ends.
So what are they planning on doing? Fabrizio Romano has offered up an update.
Fabrizio Romano on Liverpool's transfers
"Liverpool are still exploring the market for a new right back before the end of the window," Romano wrote on Twitter.
"It won’t be Givairo Read, Dutch right back currently injured for several weeks.
"FC Bayern and Manchester City remain keen on Read for summer window."
So it's a somewhat promising sign, even if it doesn't exactly sound like Liverpool are on the brink of anything. And given the window closes on Monday, the club probably should be on the brink of something by now.
But Liverpool have left this incredibly late. It's a result of being entirely reactive, rather than proactive, when it comes to their squad.
Everyone could see the risk at the back, especially once Bradley was ruled out for the season. Signing in some sort of defensive cover made complete sense - but Liverpool waited until Jeremie Frimpong was also injured before acting.
Let's see what price they pay for that.
