An exciting wonderkid is coming to replace a cult hero at Liverpool.

The best kind of players are those who you defy your expectations. Liverpool is a club that has a fighting ethos. The club's anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, teaches us to never give up.

And some of the fans' favourite players at Anfield have been those who have lived up to the spirit of these words and defined their careers with the ethos.

Wataru Endo has been one of these players.

When Jurgen Klopp introduced him to us, he told us to be excited but none of us really were. We all wanted Moises Caicedo, Endo felt like a strange transfer - maybe another Arthur Melo - simply brought in out of sheer panic.

But we were all wrong, three years later Endo is still an important player - and someone who has become a cult hero at Anfield.

In the last three years of so, Endo has proved he can be relied on whenever Liverpool need.

Whether it's a big game or a domestic cup game, or whether it's in midfield or in defence, Endo will step up and give his 110%.

He's also had some iconic moments, scoring headers that will live long in the memory of Liverpool supporters.

Not to mention playing a key role in the Premier League winning squad of last season.

But the chances are we are probably not going to see much of Endo after he picked up an injury last month.

There's a strong likelihood that he leaves the club in the summer window - especially because there is an 18-year-old now ready to replace him.

Trey Nyoni arrived at Liverpool in the same summer as Endo. Again he arrived with little fanfare but there was a feeling he could become something special.

He's had to wait for his time but slowly he's been working himself up the ranks and it feels like he's finally coming into his own.

Over the course of the last few weeks, he's been playing more and more for the first-team, coming on to make impressive performances to help close out the games.

It's proof that Nyoni is ready to play more and ready to play at this level and it's clear that he is stepping up in the hierarchical ranks among the Reds' midfielders.

He's proving his quality on England international duty as well. In his last two matches for the U19s, Nyoni played the holding midfield role and he was superb.

He won 10/12 defensive duels, made 23 recoveries, including 16 in the opposition's half, nine interceptions, made 53 passes into the opposition's final third, completing 41 of his attempts and completely dominating both games.

It's a performance that shows what he could become. For now, he's coming to replace Endo in the squad but with time, Nyoni will be a regular starter if he continues to develop and put in the same kind of performances.
