Exclusive: Liverpool arrange talks with exciting midfielder
Liverpool have arranged key talks to sign an exciting midfielder.
Anfield Watch understands that Richard Hughes will be placing a special focus on bolstering the Reds' midfield options this summer.
After not signing a midfielder since the summer of 2023, there is now room for Liverpool to reinforce their options especially with uncertainty looming over the futures of Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones, who could both leave the club this summer.
Ryan Gravenberch has signed a contract extension that has tied his future down at Anfield until he is 29-years-old.
Dominik Szoboszlai remains locked in talks over a new deal and so far the two parties are yet to come to an agreement. Real Madrid would like to sign the Hungarian, even as early as this summer, however it is moot whether they will have the sufficient funds to sanction a move.
Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister is also the subject of interest from the Spanish giants and he is a player with whom talks over a contract extension are less advanced.
In light of this, Liverpool will ideally want to bring in two midfielders at the very least this summer.
There are some high profile names on the club's shortlist that includes Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton but in typical Liverpool nature, Hughes and his recruitment team are also looking at under the radar options.
Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Caleb Yirenkyi is one of the players the club would be interested in signing.
Liverpool made an approach to sign him in January but this was refused by Nordsjaelland. The club's scouts continue to monitor his progress and are clearly impressed by the 20-year-old Ghanian international.
Yirenkyi is seen as an ideal profile by Liverpool because he can play in a number of different midfield roles - holding midfielder to a box-to-box no.8 and even as a full-back.
There is a belief that he could become an excellent squad player while also having the potential to be a starter in the future.
Now Anfield Watch can exclusively reveal that Liverpool have arranged to hold talks with Yirenkyi's representatives during the March international break.
In this crucial period to determine Yirenkyi's future, his agents and his family members will tour a number of clubs to hold discussions about their prospective visions for the future.
During this process, Liverpool officials will have an opportunity to present their plans and try to convince Yirenkyi's representatives over a move to Anfield.
The 20-year-old is being eyed by a number of clubs ahead of the summer window. He is advised by former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.
It is understood the player's priority is playing time and having a clear pathway into regular football at a club that will facilitate his development in the best possible way.
Whether Liverpool will be able to win the race for his signature remains to be seen.
