Everything you need to know about Vinícius Lira as Liverpool line up next move
Here is everything you need to know about Vinicus Lira as Liverpool line-up their next transfer.
The Reds are ready to make moves as the summer approaches and one of the players on their radar is the Brazilian full-back according to a recent report.
But just who is the exciting young full-back?
Vinicius Lira is emerging as one of the most highly rated young full-backs in Brazilian football, and it’s easy to see why Liverpool are keeping a close eye on his development.
At just 18, the Santos defender has already built a reputation as a modern, attack-minded full-back, who is comfortable on the ball, quick over short distances, and confident in advanced positions.
He's made 14 appearances for the club's senior team and has become a regular this year.
What makes Lira particularly attractive is how well he fits the tactical demands of elite European sides.
Full-backs today are no longer purely defensive players; they are expected to contribute creatively, overlap wingers, and even drift into midfield areas.
Lira’s technical ability and willingness to push forward align with that profile, suggesting he could adapt well to the intensity and style of the Premier League.
He is averaging 3.36 crosses per 90 for Santos' first team this season, since breaking into the team. He's not necessarily a ball carrier but more of an overlapping player who uses his physical advantages with his speed and long legs to beat opposition defences down the flanks.
Intriguingly, he's a bit of a unique profile in the sense that he is unusually tall for a full-back at 1.87 metres. His best ability is his aggressive defending.
He has won 67% of his 6.45 defensive duels per 90 minutes and averages 7.34 recoveries and 3.8 interceptions per 90 minutes. In terms of his style of play there is a strong resemblance to Milos Kerkez, which would make Lira an ideal profile for Liverpool.
The club's interest also reflects a broader recruitment strategy.
Liverpool has increasingly looked to identify top talents before they reach peak market value, especially in South America. So far, Michael Edwards has not been able to attract the top talents from the region but this could now change and it could start with Lira.
Given Santos’ history of producing elite players, Lira represents a high-upside investment.
There is also a squad-planning angle with the Reds looking to replace Andy Robertson.
It's become apparent this season that Liverpool are in a period of transition, and Robertson is one who likely won't be staying at Anfield beyond the current campaign.
Bringing in a young full-back like Lira would be a smart move to replace Robertson, offering both depth in the short-term and a long-term solution as well.
So this is a move to keep an eye on.
