An exciting defender is now nearing an inevitable move to Liverpool to replace Andy Robertson.

The Scotsman has officially entered the last six months of his current deal at the club. Right now it looks like Robertson has fallen down the pecking order, and given he is going to be 32-years-old later this year, we can't really see him extending his deal at Anfield.

Robertson has been a legend. He's been one of the best left-backs of his generation. Nobody will dispute that he is also still a fantastic footballer.

But the way FSG and Michael Edwards operates, we know that they will be reluctant to offer big wages and a long-term contract for a player who is already being considered as a back-up in the team.

Robertson deserves to play out his career on a high, and while our preference would be for him to stay at the club and become the perfect back-up to Milos Kerkez, we simply cannot see that happening.

The Scotsman is far too good to be sitting on the bench. He came close to leaving last summer for Atletico Madrid, and he will have plenty of suitors on a free contract come this summer.

The question then becomes, who replaces him?

Kostas Tsimikas is an option but he's not really getting much game time at AS Roma, surely a club with Liverpool's aspirations want someone better?

The Greek scouser is likely going to be moving on, too.

That would leave just Kerkez as the sole left-back in the team, which means they would have to enter the market in order to sign a player who can both be his back-up and provide competition.

For that there is one obvious left-back who is already nearing a move in the summer.

El Hadji Malick Diouf signed for West Ham with high hopes. He was also on Liverpool's radar last year, but it was the Hammers who won the race for his signature.

Now the 21-year-old has had a solid start to life in the Premier League but West Ham look to be heading back down to the Championship.

A player of Diouf's ilk, who won the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, being the starting left-back for his nation, is far too good to be playing in England's second tier.

West Ham will inevitably need sales in order to cope with the financial loss that comes with relegation and Diouf just seems like the perfect option.

Liverpool have done this in the past, buying gems from relegated sides, including Robertson but Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri as well.

Michael Edwards has a knack for these types of deals and that is why Diouf just feels like he is destined to move to Liverpool, especially because the club had been watching him since his Slavia Prague days.

So the closer West Ham get to relegation the more Diouf will near a move to Anfield in our opinion.

And he's be a fantastic signing. Diouf is a sensational defender who loves to run the channels and will always look to cross the ball into the box. He's exactly the type of player Liverpool need, and who could compliment the club's options on the left side alongside Kerkez really well.
