Even when the Reds were struggling to win trophies and going through a barren run. There was still a Steven Gerrard, a Fernando Torres or a Luis Suarez.

Before them Robbie Fowler or Jamie Carragher.

Then of course Jurgen Klopp came along and changed all of that. Now there are even more iconic players at the club, who are also going to be icons in the Premier League.

But undoubtedly the biggest legend of Liverpool is Gerrard. He is simply was the man for the big moments and a player who carried the club on his back.

Gerrard is Mr Liverpool. No one loves the club and understands Liverpool more than he does.

Right now, he's currently not employed by the Reds or anyone else. Gerrard appeared on TNT recently and he was asked by Ally McCoist whether he would consider returning to Anfield.

Gerrard confirmed that he's ready to return and help the club in any way he can if he gets the call.

"I'll be brutally, brutally honest with you. I'd help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I'd help them with anything," Gerrard said.

"I don't want the Arne Slot to lose his job.

"I want him to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great. I was bouncing all over the city four or five months ago when Liverpool won the league.

"I'm a Liverpool fan. I want the best for Liverpool. But if Liverpool need me in any department at any time, I'll be there for them."

Gerrard gets the right sentiments and hits the perfect tone with his comments here. Everyone at Liverpool has to be wanting Slot to turn things around.

Things have been dire for the manager but Slot also delivered fantastic moments in charge of the club. He needs time and patience and he needs people backing him.

At the same time, of course everyone would love to see Gerrard return. Perhaps one day as the head coach of the team but also just in any capacity.

If there's room for him in the backroom staff, Liverpool should consider making it happen.

Gerrard working for Liverpool just makes the most sense. It's never really felt right seeing him anywhere else.
