An exciting centre-back has all-but confirmed he would like to join Liverpool.

At this moment in time there's only one thing on our minds when it comes to where we need more recruitment. When Liverpool failed to sign Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window we all had a bad premonition.

That bad premonition was fulfilled with the terrible injury suffered by Giovanni Leoni. He is now ruled out for the rest of the season, meaning the club's fourth centre-back option is either Rhys Williams or Wataru Endo.

It's not ideal for a team hoping to compete for the Premier League and Champions League title. Liverpool need more depth in that department and January cannot come soon enough.

With Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate both vulnerable to injuries, Arne Slot is only one injury away from total catastrophe.

There's so many names being linked with a move to Anfield, it's hard to keep up with at the moment. We're in the stage of the recruitment process where Liverpool will be assessing their options but they won't have narrowed down their targets just yet.

These few months are all about touching base with representatives and evaluating what can be done and who is available and genuinely interested in signing for the club.

To make matters more interesting, Liverpool might have another options they could target with a defender pretty much confirming that he would be interested in playing for the club and teaming up with one of the Reds' latest stars.

In an interview with Foot Mercato as per Sport Witness 21-year-old centre-back Ousmane Diao waxed lyrical about Hugo Ekitike of all people and admitted he would love to be his teammate.

“Last year, against Frankfurt, there were a lot of good players like Ekitike, Marmoush, etc. But Hugo Ekitike was particularly difficult. Honestly, I’d love to play with him in the future [laughs]. His movement is incredible. He’s fast, technical… he’s very strong!” Diao explained.

Diao also admitted his dream is to play in England for the 'biggest club.'

“The dream next step is to go to England, to the biggest clubs God willing. To go and play in the Champions League, all that,” he added.

A very young defender, he's been catching the eye at FC Midtjylland over the last few years and this season he has really dominated in the Europa League, scoring two goals in his first two matches and putting in a very strong performance against Nottingham Forest.

If he can continue those performances, Diao could absolutely be an option for Liverpool. He's young and he's the right sort of profile so he's definitely one to keep an eye on.
