Arne Slot promises that ‘sensational’ Liverpool star will reach new heights
Liverpool have been underwhelming this season, there's no two ways around it.
Arne Slot and Richard Hughes spent over £400 million on new players and, to be honest, the Reds have been worse off for it.
They're currently sixth in the Premier League table with no chance of winning the title.
Of course, the number of injuries that they've suffered needs to be taken into account but, you'd have still thought that things would've improved at Anfield, rather than get worse.
Slot has been quite open about his disappointment this season and, ahead of Liverpool's game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the Dutchman shared his thoughts on the performances of some players and what he thinks will happen in the future.
Arne Slot says Alexander Isak will be at his best next season
After Liverpool signed Alexander Isak for £125 million in the summer, the Sweden international became the Reds' record signing.
Most fans thought that the arrival of the striker would make them unstoppable, especially after the season that Mohamed Salah had last time around.
Instead, injuries and a severe lack of fitness massively hindered his progress which has meant that the number nine has hardly been given a chance to prove his worth.
This is why, on Thursday, Slot promised fans that they'll see why Liverpool spent £125 million on the striker.
"Unfortunately for him and us we haven't seen the best Alexander Isak. We will next season," he said.
"Let's not put a timescale on it but it's clear he will be available if things go as planned this season!"
An in form Alexander Isak could help Liverpool win the Premier League next season
Last term, Isak was easily the Premier League's best striker.
The Swede managed to lead Newcastle to a fifth placed finish as he contributed to 33 goals across all competitions.
If Isak managed to hit that same vein of form again next season, the striker could easily lead Liverpool to the title, especially if Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike manage to do the same.
When the 2026-27 season comes around, the striker is going to feel like a new signing for Slot due to the lack of game time he's had this term.
Of course, one player can't lead an entire team to a title but, if Isak manages to get back to his best, the Reds will stand a much better chance of competing with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City next time around.
That is, especially if he can reach the 'sensational' levels that he showed while playing for Newcastle last term.
