Arne Slot has just tried to claim the most ridiculous thing he's ever claimed.

Liverpool have been shambles all season and the club's head-coach has been responsible for a lot of the shortcomings at Anfield.

Slot has been unable to inspire his team, and he's been on a barren run. Liverpool have won just nine of their last 25 matches in the Premier League - enduring nine defeats in the process.

If it wasn't for somehow cruising their way through the first five matches of the campaign, where they won every single game, Liverpool could be in a terrible position right now.

Alas, because of that positive start, Slot's side still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League but not if they continue to perform in the way they have been performing all season.

If the current form persists, it's hard to envisage a world in which Liverpool finish in the top five in the Premier League. Losing to Wolverhampton and drawing to a Tottenham side going through their worst spell of the season was indicative of why Liverpool have a genuine chance of missing out on Europe's elite competition.

The problem with Liverpool has been the fact that Slot has simply denied there has been any problems at all. Or rather, he's not been able to pinpoint the problem.

In a lot of his press conferences, he looks baffled - unable to explain why Liverpool are losing as many matches as they have and why they are in the position they are.

He also seems a little bit divorced from reality.

In his most recent press conference, building up to Liverpool's encounter with Galatasaray, the club's head-coach said the most ridiculous thing he's ever said.

Slot was asked about whether he is concerned about the fact that Tottenham ran 15% more than Liverpool in the 1-1 draw.

“Shows how much the ball we had. Doesn't concern me at all. I saw us sprinting back in the last minutes. In general we are sprinting back when it's needed in most situations," he said.

“I can say that 80 or 90% of games I have managed, my team has outworked the other team and my teams have created more chances than the other team. The outcome does not always do justice to that - that's the beauty of football and being in a low-scoring sport."

Now on the surface, Slot might have a point but here's why he's totally wrong. In theory a team that has the ball should run less.

However, this should not be the case if the team wants to breakdown a low-block. When that is the case, you still need a lot of running out of possession.

Ideally against a low-block, you want your players constantly moving, trying to find and exploit that tiny gap of space that you can penetrate.

Football is a game of movement, it's a game of exploiting space and Slot doesn't seem to comprehend that at all.

Here's the most ridiculous part of his statement though and it's the fact that he claims that Liverpool have either created more chances or outworked the other team in 80-90% of the games he's managed.

This simply cannot apply to this season. In most games, Liverpool's opponents create more clear-cut chances, including big chances and they outrun the opposition. It's so clear that this is the case on the eye test that it's baffling to think Slot would even try to claim otherwise.
