Arne Slot has ANOTHER right-back

The right-back position was always going to be a problem for Liverpool.

Although it would be a lot easier to figure out if Jeremie Frimpong wasn't injured all the time. It's fair to say Frimpong's injury problems and Conor Bradley being out of form have forced all of us to admit that we are seriously missing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It's not just us. Arne Slot has realised this as well, which is why even when Frimpong and Bradley were both fit he decided to play Dominik Szoboszlai in the role.

But Slot cannot rely on the Hungarian to play that position. Szoboszlai is a midfielder and he's also extremely important for Liverpool in the middle of the park.

So if not Bradley, and Frimpong is out injured, what's the solution?

There have been a few shouts for Calvin Ramsay. But there could equally be a case for Wataru Endo.

Recently the Japanese star has been playing more and more often in the club's backline rather than in his accustomed midfield position.

It's a role he is used to because back while playing in his homeland in the J.League, Endo was predominantly used as a centre-back. It was only in Europe where he transitioned into more of a midfielder.

But as well as playing the centre-back role, Endo was often used as a right-back as well. On a number of times, while playing for Urawa Reds, Endo was shifted to the right-back role.

He has since played it for his country as well and in total it's been quite an effective position for him.

For club and country he has played 19 games as a right-back and he has five assists in those matches. In those games he's also averaging 9.44 passes into the final third per 90 minutes and 4.17 into the opposition's penalty area.

So on paper he's proven to be quite useful in that position, not only providing assists but also dropping deep to play those progressive passes and instigate attacks.

At Liverpool, Slot has thrown him on as a substitute a couple of times at right-back. Most recently against Bournemouth, when he played 12 minutes there towards the end of the game.

But he also played 21 minutes there against Brighton last season and 19 minutes against Tottenham, when the Reds won the league with an emphatic 5-1 victory.

Perhaps, this could be a temporary fix for Slot. Playing Endo as a right-back and allowing Milos Kerkez to be unleashed on the other side, might balance out the backline.

It's definitely another option for the Liverpool head coach to consider.
