Arne Slot has an INSANE decision to make ahead of Bournemouth match

Liverpool once again took a step in the right direction with Wednesday night’s win in Marseille.

The Reds looked confident and delivered an assured performance in the south of France, especially once they took the lead.

Dominik Szoboszlai was the standout performer on the night, but several other players impressed and Arne Slot will have a lot to think about ahead of Saturday's clash against Bournemouth.

Hugo Ekitike started on the left for Liverpool on Wednesday and narrowly missed out on his 13th goal of the season when he hit the woodwork 10 minutes into the second half.

Cody Gakpo replaced the Frenchman with just over 10 minutes to go and the Dutchman was able to get his name on the scoresheet, leaving Slot with a selection headache ahead of the weekend.

Who should start on the left for Liverpool?

Although Ekitike was predominantly on the left on Wednesday, he did inter change with Florian Wirtz at times, and the German is more than capable of starting on the left in his own right.

Slot can only choose one player to start there against Bournemouth though, and Gakpo’s goal will surely see him make a return to the starting XI.

If Gakpo did start on the left, it would presumably be one of Wirtz or Ekitike that starts through the middle, meaning the flexibility seen against Marseille could once again be utilised.

Mohamed Salah returned to the Liverpool squad after the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Egyptian King will presumably retain his starting position at the weekend too.

Such a selection headache is a problem Slot won’t mind having, but when you factor in that Alexander Isak is currently out injured it truly shows the embarrassment of riches Liverpool have in their forward positions.

Gakpo has received criticism in recent weeks for his continuous compulsion to cut in and shoot, but it proved effective on Wednesday, and the Dutchman does deserve to return to the starting XI.

The big problem is that it’s hard to pick a player who deserves to be dropped to accommodate him.
