Arne Slot favourite offered to clubs ahead of surprise sale
An Arne Slot favourite has been offered to clubs as Liverpool plot a surprise sale. This could shake things up.
Teamtalk reports that Cody Gakpo has been offered to clubs by intermediaries ahead of a potential sale from Liverpool. It's said that clubs both in England and abroad have been made aware.
Now, this doesn't mean Liverpool are the ones offering Gakpo out. But it does sound as though something of a green light has been given as interest is sounded out.
Gakpo has been a favourite of Arne Slot's over the last two seasons, particularly in this campaign after Luis Diaz departed. That faith was rewarded with a new contract ahead of this season that significantly bumped his pay - but it seems he may not remain on that contract for particularly long.
Tottenham Hotspur are apparently very interested in Gakpo. Whether they're in any state to make an offer is very much wait-and-see, however.
Cody Gakpo: Situation Summary
Inconsistency and Transfer Reports
Gakpo played the full 90 minutes at the Amex but admitted post-match that he "cannot explain" Liverpool's recurring inconsistency. Despite starting 25 Premier League games this season, he has managed only 6 goals and 3 assists. Reports from TEAMtalk and ESPN suggest intermediaries are now "actively gauging interest" from clubs like RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham. Liverpool is reportedly considering Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon as a potential replacement if a suitable offer arrives this summer.
Current Role and Stats
The 26-year-old has been a prominent figure under Arne Slot, especially following Hugo Ekitiké’s recent injury. Across all competitions in 2025/26, Gakpo has 8 goals and 4 assists. While he remains a trusted tactical option, critics have noted his struggle to maintain "sustained dominance." With a contract running until June 2030, any exit would likely require a significant fee, though the presence of Jurgen Klopp at Red Bull could facilitate a move to Leipzig.
