Arne Slot could hire SPECIAL assistant coach to save the season

Arne Slot could save Liverpool's season by hiring a new assistant coach.

Let's face it none of us are ready to let go of our Premier League title winning head-coach. That's not the Liverpool way.

The Reds have always stood by their manager and gave them the support they needed through difficult times. Right now Liverpool are going through an incredibly tough time.

Something does have to change. Liverpool cannot simply persist the same way and thing that they are going to get away with it.

Does it have to be something as radical as getting rid of the manager?

Absolutely not. There are other ways Liverpool can succeed. One of those could be to hire a real maverick as an assistant coach. Just think of how many fresh new ideas Pep Lijnders came up with when he was appointed as an assistant to Jurgen Klopp.

That's the kind of change Slot needs now, and there's a special candidate who could be perfect for it.

Liverpool need to get back to their old ways. They need to be better in possession, create more chances and then also press far more effectively out of possession.

This obviously takes time but it also needs the right coaches to embed it into the players and instil those ideas and methods.

Slot's been able to do this but now he needs someone else, and that someone else could be Albert Riera.

Old school Liverpool fans may recognise that name. Riera played for Liverpool very briefly for a couple of seasons and became a bit of a cult hero.

He was a cultured winger and he scored a few stunning strikes during his time at the club.

Now he has embarked on a managerial career and has done remarkably well as a head-coach in Slovenia.

Riera has already won two league titles and helped NK Celje to a historic Europa Conference League quarter-final finish last season.

Impressively, his methods are not your typical defensive style of football you'd expect for a manager of a European minnow to employ.

Riera plays a possession-based style with a lot of high intensity running. His team play with a high press that is extremely effective.

A recent CIES study showed that Celje make one of the highest percentages of recoveries in the opposition's final third outside of the top 25 leagues from Europe's top five leagues.

So, Riera knows how to implement an enjoyable pressing style. He has an innovative mind and he's quite young for a coach.

It would be a step down for him to take the position of assistant at Liverpool in terms of the title of the job but when you look at the size of the club and the exposure he would get, it's definitely a step-up.

Which is why Slot and Liverpool should pursue him. He could save the club's entire season.
