Arne Slot confirms Liverpool star's MASSIVE return
Arne Slot confirmed one Liverpool star is back in training ahead of the Reds' crunch clash with Leeds United. Itβs exactly what they needed.
Liverpool will hope to get back to winning ways on Saturday as they travel to take on Leeds United. The Reds did enjoy something of a positive result against Sunderland in midweek - but that's really just a sign of how awful things are.
That 'positive' result simply meant not losing. It finished 1-1 at Anfield and with that, Liverpool went undefeated in consecutive Premier League games for the first time in months.
It's still not good enough, obviously. Liverpool need to get back on track with some consistency and at this stage, it almost certainly means changing the system.
Arne Slot has attempted to do that somewhat in recent weeks. He's dropped Mo Salah and changed to a much more narrow formation that sees Dominik Szoboszlai tucked in off the right flank.
It's worked to an extent but something has been missing. That something could be back this weekend, however.
Conor Bradley is back
Arne Slot confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Conor Bradley is fit again after missing the last few games with an injury. His return is exactly what the Reds need to get this new tactical idea ticking.
“Conor Bradley has trained this week, so I expect him to train today and then he is available to be in the squad tomorrow,” Slot told the press conference.
The biggest problem up to now has been that with Szoboszlai tucking in, it's been Joe Gomez offering the width on that side. He's been finding himself with all the space and time in the world.
Now, we love Gomez but he is a centre-back who offers a solid defensive-full-back role. He's not a proper creative outlet and he's not someone who will charge forward and trouble opposition defences on the ball.
In fact, both Sunderland and West Ham United were quite happy to let him have that space as they followed Szoboszlai inside. That will not be the case with Bradley at right-back.
It forces teams to make a decision as Bradley will punish them if he's allowed to bomb on forward. That offers more space to the players in the middle and might just get better performances out of this system.
