Liverpool are reeling from the loss of several forwards all at once.

Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton was impacted by an early injury suffered by Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman was hit with a dead leg - rendering him unable to continue in the contest.

Liverpool lost - hampered by a lack of firepower due to injuries to other forwards. Alexander Isak is chief among them - on the sidelines since Christmas with a broken leg.

Mohamed Salah didn’t play either with the Egyptian King unable to take part in international duty either. And even further down the age ranks the injuries are beginning to tell for Liverpool’s forwards.

Jayden Danns is once again expected to be out for a while following a hamstring injury.

Clarification: Figueroa is injured

Meanwhile there had been confusion over the current status of Keyrol Figueroa. The 19-year-old has scored 11 goals in 14 Premier League 2 games this season and was even called up for the EFL Cup game against Crystal Palace by Arne Slot.

But the United States under-20 international was posted absent for the last few fixtures amid speculation that he was ready to run down his Liverpool contract.

And when he was left out of the USMNT U20 and U21 squads last week speculation went into overdrive about his international future too.

Honduras media took it as a sign that a change of nationality to his native country was imminent as their technical director sets about bolstering the ranks.

Figueroa injury confirmed

But the player’s mother - Sandra Norales - has now confirmed that the explosive No9 is also injured. That adds to Liverpool’s striking injury troubles but clarifies why he is not with the national team during the current window.

“CLARIFICATION: Player Keyrol Figueroa was initially called up by the United States; however, he was withdrawn due to an injury sustained during a training session,” he wrote on X.

“There is no other additional situation. It is requested to avoid speculation.”

Figueroa ready to leave Liverpool

Honduras will therefore have to wait before Figueroa comes on board. He’s got plenty to sort out with his club future too following a change to Federico Pastorello’s P&P Sport Management agency.

Figueroa has been linked with a move to either Porto or PSV as he is seeking the kind of first-team guarantees that Liverpool simply cannot offer.
