Richard Hughes has the perfect opportunity to give Liverpool the best parting gift
The rumour mill has been in overdrive at Liverpool over the last couple of weeks.
The Anfield outfit have been linked with many different players this summer and, if they don't manage to get some of those deals over the line, they'll be in a whole world of trouble.
And, to make things even worse, an injury crisis has hit Liverpool which has left them with just one senior centre-back.
However, it's not their defence that is their main priority this summer.
Instead, it's Liverpool's attack that seems to be Richard Hughes' main focus at the moment, especially since Mohamed Salah has left and Hugo Ekitike is still side-lined due to injury.
And, with Hughes set to leave Liverpool at the end of the summer transfer window, it feels like the perfect parting gift from the Englishman has just presented itself.
Richard Hughes has to try and sign Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye for Liverpool
Initially, Yan Diomande was Liverpool's main target to replace Mohamed Salah.
The Ivorian may have only had one season in the Bundesliga but, the fact that he contributed to over 20 goals across all competitions is not something to be frowned upon.
The attacker can play on either wing but, since Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid entered the race for him, there was no way that Liverpool were going to win the transfer battle.
This led to Bradley Barcola becoming their main attacking target and recently, Ibrahim Mbaye has also emerged as a concrete target for the Anfield outfit.
Both of them currently play for Paris Saint-Germain and, even though Luis Enrique's attack is full of talent, each of them have had a decent amount of playing time.
However, with Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche both supposedly on their way to the Parc des Princes this summer, it's clear that some players will need to be moved on.
And, since both players could be signed by Liverpool, it feels like it would be the perfect parting gift from Hughes.
Not only would he set the Reds' attack up for the next few years but, he'd also give them a really good chance of earning some silverware this season.
Liverpool would have to sell one of their attackers to make room for Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola
The fact that Liverpool have three left-wingers among their first-team squad at the moment is a tad worrying.
Indeed, Victor Munoz can be used on the right if needed but, since he's mainly played on the left throughout his career, changing his position now feels a tad risky.
So, with this in mind, going into the 2026-27 season, Liverpool will have three players fighting for one position in Iraola's team.
And, while depth is definitely needed, having three players who all deserve to start fighting for the same place is a bit unfair.
With this in mind, Rio Ngumoha obviously isn't going anywhere and, since Munoz has only just joined, Cody Gakpo is likely to be the one that exits.
Tottenham have been interested in signing him for a while now and, since Liverpool are demanding around £72 million for Gakpo, he's the most obvious player for them to let go of.
Here's hoping that Hughes gives Liverpool fans the gift that they have been asking for all summer.
