New right winger is already here after failed Bayern Munich offer

Liverpool have had trouble in landing a new right winger.

Mohamed Salah has left the club - reaching an agreement to rip up his £400k contract. The initial plan was to bring in Yan Diomande - with a bid going in for the Cote d’Ivoire FIFA World Cup star earlier this summer.

RB Leipzig knocked back the opening offer - which would have reached €100m if all add-ons were achieved. It now looks as though the 19-year-old is heading for Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are searching elsewhere for right wingers.

Yankuba Minteh and Bradley Barcola are two names which come to mind - but right now Richard Hughes has had no success in conjuring a deal.

Ngumoha drops right-wing hint

One option heading into the new season could be to use Rio Ngumoha on the other side of the attack. The 17-year-old made a decisive breakthrough under Arne Slot during the 2025/26 season.

Signed as a 15-year-old in the summer of 2024 the England youth rose quickly through the ranks. He inked his first-ever professional deal last year and looks set to star at Anfield in the years ahead.

Ngumoha vows to become a threat on the right

Ngumoha was the subject of a failed approach from Bayern Munich earlier this summer with Liverpool in no mood to do business. And now with Mo Salah leaving there is an opportunity to move over to the other side of the attack under Andoni Iraola.

“I think being unpredictable off both sides is key,” Ngumoha tells the club’s official website.

“Obviously, everyone knows I can play on the left, but on the right I feel like I’m improving and I’m getting better.

“So, yeah, definitely off the left and the right this season.”

Will Andoni Iraola shift Ngumoha across?

Liverpool have got Ngumoha, Cody Gakpo and Victor Munoz as options on the left side of the attack right now. So it would make sense to shift one of them across - especially if the Merseysiders cannot get a deal over the line in the transfer market.

Ngumoha’s dribbling, pace and one-v-one ability all mark him out as a significant wing threat - and one who in the case of Bayern Munich is coveted by some of the biggest names in football.

So Liverpool fans can rest assured that even if a new nine-figure signing doesn’t come through the door this summer they have a winger who has pledged to do a job over there this coming season.

It will be interesting to see how Iraola approaches this situation in preseason - with Josh Abe and Kieran Morrison the other options for the right wing on the USA tour.
