Real Madrid blow Liverpool out of the water with £100m Ibrahima Konate contract offer
Ibrahima Konate is one step away from joining Real Madrid.
The Frenchman’s Liverpool contract officially expires on June 30 - after such time he will be free to put pen to paper on his Madrid proposal.
The deal right now is subject to Florentino Perez being re-elected as Real Madrid president. That looks a formality with the 79-year-old an overwhelming favourite to beat challenger Enrique Riquelme to the post.
Konate, 27, will therefore become the cornerstone of the new defensive project at the Bernabeu under returning head coach Jose Mourinho.
Liverpool had been hopeful of extending Konate’s contract beyond summer 2026 - with the player having signed originally back in 2021 from RB Leipzig for £35m.
The outgoing Premier League champions were happy to offer a salary increase but the deal fell down as the two sides remained apart in their expectations.
Konate to make £100m at Real Madrid
Konate was earning a reported £150k per week at Liverpool and Richard Hughes doesn’t appear to have come close to matching what he was asking for.
Now a report from Spain has revealed what Konate is expected to earn in the Spanish capital - and it’s light-years away from what he could have taken home at Anfield.
According to El Desmarque Konate will be netting around €12m annual wages over the course of a four-year contract - around €230k per week. The gross figure is around €24m - around €460k per week.
Furthermore Konate will be given a €20m signing-on bonus for inking a deal with Los Blancos.
Konate plays a blinder: £400k per week
In GBP that equates to a gross £400k per week contract - roughly on par with what Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were given when they signed their renewals in 2025. Furthermore that welcome bonus is worth a cool £17m.
Over the lifetime of a reported four-year deal Konate will be making £83 MILLION in gross salary plus the £17m he will be picking up upon his arrival.
Madrid’s total financial commitment to the defender is £100m - not a figure that would have been matched at Anfield.
Konate was the subject of Real Madrid interest in the season before his contract expired. But the Spanish giants apparently pulled the plug on a deal back in November - plunging his move into doubt.
Owing to the loss of David Alaba on a free transfer - and another serious injury to Antonio Rudiger - Madrid are in desperate need of quality defensive reinforcements.
They have got their man in the shape of Konate - who has played a blinder to secure the contract of a lifetime.
