Good news as Liverpool announce new winger deal

Liverpool need one-v-one quality out wide for the season ahead.

That was made a priority under previous head coach incumbent Arne Slot. And the plan hasn’t changed with Bradley Barcola in the crosshairs of the 2024/25 Premier League champions.

With Paris Saint-Germain demanding £145m however it is not going to be an easy deal to conclude. Barcola is under contract until 2028 and has made it known he won’t sign a new deal but PSG are sticking to their guns.

If Liverpool are going to be successful in this pursuit then they are going to have to go to unprecedented lengths to land the 23-year-old.

Liverpool could require internal winger solutions

And if not the solutions from within the squad will have to be considered. Federico Chiesa Jeremie Frimpong may be considered for the right-wing slot in the short term but don’t forget the abundant young talent that the Merseysiders have got coming through.

Rio Ngumoha, 17, leads the next generation and will be a fully-established member of the first-team squad for club and country in the years to come.

Then there’s Joshua Abe - who Liverpool managed to keep at the club despite heavy pressure from Manchester City and others.

The 16-year-old is on tour with Andoni Iraola’s squad in the United States and looks set to step into Mohamed Salah’s at least on a part-time basis next season.

La'more Lee Forrester signs first pro deal

And the Reds are also celebrating a new contract deal for another outstanding young wing talent. La’more Lee Forrester has been with Liverpool since the age of six - first playing for the under-18s at the age of only 15.

Since then the quicksilver English winger has established himself in the youth and academy setup - featuring at UEFA Youth League level last season.

Liverpool have now announced a first EVER professional contract for the 17-year-old - who scored 10 goals in the U18 Premier League last season.

“The 17-year-old winger put pen to paper on the deal at the AXA Training Centre as he prepares for the 2026-27 campaign,” the announcement reads.

“Lee Forrester has been at the club since the age of six and climbed through the Academy system to debut for the U18s when he was 15.

“He was a regular for Simon Wiles' side last season and also gained experience in the UEFA Youth League.”

The pipeline for Liverpool in the wide position is strong - a huge bonus for the club so long as landing first-choice wingers in the market is proving so difficult.

Who knows what the future has got in store for these talents but it is a relief for Iraola to know that he can rely on the academy to produce year on year.
