Liverpool still alive in deal for £80m English midfielder

Liverpool have been tipped to conduct a summer transfer window midfielder shakeup.

Curtis Jones is a target once again for Inter Milan and the Italian champions appear confident of getting their man before the deadline.

Stefan Bajcetic could be on his way to Sevilla on a bargain deal as he - like Jones - has only got one year left on his deal.

In a similar boat is Harvey Elliott who is currently with the squad for the US preseason tour. Out of contract in 2027 he too could be sold if the right bid materialises.

Alexis Mac Allister isn’t thought to be untouchable following a poor campaign and with his deal running out in 2028 Richard Hughes may take the opportunity to cash in.

Alex Scott is back on the agenda

Such an exodus would leave the Merseysiders short of top-quality options in the middle third.

There is no shortage of links to inbound transfers - with Alex Scott now once again emerging as a potential deal to be done.

Caught Offside is reporting that Chelsea are preparing for another raid on Bournemouth for the 22-year-old Englishman. The Blues under Xabi Alonso had an offer of around £64m knocked back in recent days and will test the Cherries’ mettle once again at £70m.

“Chelsea are understood to be preparing an improved bid of around £70m for the transfer of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott,” the report reads.

“There is still a gap to be bridged, however, with Bournemouth’s valuation of £80m.”

And while the two clubs remain apart on their valuations of the midfielder - who has turned down a new contract at the Vitality Stadium - the door could open for other clubs to make a bid.

Don't rule Liverpool out of Alex Scott deal

One such team is Liverpool - with Scott rising to prominence under Andoni Iraola following his 2023 arrival from Bristol City.

“The Englishman also has interest from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham, while Arsenal also made an enquiry earlier this summer,” the report reads.

“Andoni Iraola knows the player well and is a big fan, so I wouldn’t rule out Liverpool.”

Scott made 34 starts for the South Coast side in the Premier League last season and has been in and around the England camp under Thomas Tuchel.

He now has 80 top-flight games under his belt and looks set to move on and improve his fortunes at a top club. Let’s hope it’s Liverpool under a head coach he knows very well.
